In early March Anna hurt her hand and was diagnosed with a dislocated thumb. Then, while visiting family in Arizona, she slipped and fell. That fall resulted in a visit to a hospital in the USA for emergency treatment. They splinted her hand and indicated that she would need to see a trauma specialist. Upon returning home, we made an appointment with a doctor who specializes in hand surgery.
He quickly realized that her right thumb was not dislocated but hyperextended. He also noted that the tendons that control the movement of the thumb were over active. You could actually see them moving and pulling all the way up to the bend in her elbow. After ordering an Electromyography (EMG) testing, a cervical MRI and a cranial MRI to help with diagnosis, he told us that there appeared to be a neurological problem caused by the trauma to her hand. He referred her to a neurologist for continued evaluation.
Based on the observation of her symptoms as well as consultations with other neurologists Dr. Calderón has given a tentative diagnosis of Dystonia. Dystonia disrupts the nervous system’s ability to allow the brain and the muscles to communicate. Since it is a relatively obscure condition I am including the following link for those who may have more questions, Click Here.
This disease has already begun to advance and is now showing signs in her arm, shoulder, leg, foot and toes.
Please pray Anna as she learns to deal with the symptoms and struggles that have been brought on by this condition. Also pray for her as she endures the testing and probing of doctors and their equipment.
For the last twenty-one years we have not had health insurance yet time after time we have seen the Lord provide in many special and unique ways for seven births as well as many broken bones, appendix, thrombosis, MS, and even major neck surgery. Having seen God provide, time after time, I believe that the same will be true in this situation.
I am so grateful to have not walked this journey alone!
You, by co-laboring with us have laid up treasure in Heaven! Those who have given of their time in prayer, their efforts and work, or their resources will share in that eternal reward. Your faithfulness has been instrumental in expanding God’s kingdom through VNMinistries.
In order to continue expanding this mission, we have added the eGiving one-time and recurring online giving tools not only for your convenience but to save money, improve planning and keep the focus on ministry. Each gift given through eGiving will save VNMinistries the time and expenses of processing paper checks; the eGiving secure site also allows for donations through Credit Cards.
If you have not already done so, please consider taking advantage of these tools. The eGiving tool can be explored in the support section of our new website, www.vnministries.org, or simply fill out and return the enclosed card.
If you have any questions about eGiving and how it works please drop John Desaulniers a note.
Thank you for praying for Anna.
In Christ,
Mike
PS: After the passing of Obama Care I applied for it as required by law. We did not qualify and were quoted a price that was nearly 75% of our annual income. Then after finding out about a local Mexican policy that would provide catastrophic coverage at two local hospitals, I applied and was approved for it. While it will not help in Anna’s situation, it would provide financial stability should something happen like a heart attack or breast cancer.
